Growing up in a single-mother household teaches you early in life what women are capable of, more so than men. Sacrifice. Selflessness. Strength. Naturally, you also learn to respect and admire women’s qualities. This common upbringing breeds male feminists, like me.

While documenting Booking’s Women in Tech Code-A-Thon in San Francisco, I appreciated the presence of every women who attended. Particularly, I witnessed how empowered and gratified the young women were to receive invaluable mentoring.

My feminism exposed itself during this assignment when we captured portraits of these young women. Aside from learning to code their own website in 2 days, it was amazing to see their confidence skyrocket when they viewed themselves on camera in slow motion.

“These young women are getting more inspired to demand their place at the table.”

“The girls have come here from all over the country for this Code-A-Thon.”

Oro’s charisma makes them comfortable as we shoot their moving portraits.

“Booking is an amazing leader. More than 50% of their workforce is female.”

The girls are having this time to really start building out what their dreams are.

“We want young women to know that they should enter the world of tech.”

Visiting Booking’s headquarters culminated what the company stands for.

“I am excited to announce the Booking educational scholarship of $350,000.”

“Thank goodness someone is going to change the World. It is really good news.”

Sharing their developed websites with Laura and conversing about life’s goals.

Reflecting On Feminism

Humbling to work with brands that do right by doing good. And we enjoy executing on missons that we actually support. Booking’s Women in Tech Code-A-Thon is about more than young women coding websites. But the empowerment of women altogether.

This opportunity in San Francisco expanded our mindset toward the everyday importance of feminism and equality in the workforce and male-dominated industries like technology. I feel women possess a level of intellect and reasoning that men simply are incapable of.

How much more advanced would the technology sector be if the gender gap were to dissipate? Booking CEO Gillian Tans is inspiring other tech companies to bridge this gap by establishing gender equality and diversity. The men at XYNN are the first to be inspired.
